The Maine Coast Semester offers a small number of 11th grade students the chance to live and work on 1 400 acre saltwater peninsula to explore the interrelationship between people and the environment through courses in natural science, environmental issues, art, history, literature, and writing. The academic program is designed to support and enrih the junior year curriculum. The buildings are rustic, the atmosphere is informal, and the community is small - only 36 students and 13 faculty members. Students and faculty jointly share responsibility for all aspects of the program. In addition to their studies,k students work to maintain the facilities and a working farm and woodlot. The students who attend the Maine Coast Semester are highly motivated and very academically capable.

The Great Books Summer Reading Program held on the campuses of Amherst College and Stanford University offer gifted and talented readers the opportunity to experience college-level seminar discussions of the great works of literature. The Great Books Summer Reading Program is the result of a collaboration between the Great Books Foundation and a group of distinguished educators. Over the course of six days, students will read and discuss selections from the classics such as Homer's Odyssey, Anna Karenina, the Declaration of Independence, and Plato's Apology. Students will discuss these texts using Shared Inquiry, a powerful method of learning in which students assist one another in a search for meaning.

Hulbert Voyageurs trips provide exciting and rewarding experiences for youth having completed grades 4 through 11. Travel through the wilderness of northern New England, whether canoeing, kayaking, backpacking, or rock climbing. Each trip consisits of expereinces designed to encourage confidence, cooperative teamwork, communication and leadership skills, wilderness skill development, and environmental awareness.
Trip sizes are limited: 8-12 participants, 2-4 staff. Over 20 trips, arranged by peer group, activity, and date choice. Trip leaders are ages 21+ and are certified in current safety standards.

A 4-week residential summer program for high school students who excel in science/mathematics. Participants take classes, labs and engage in special events designed to enhance personal, social and academic growth. Each COSMOS site offers theme-based course clusters reflecting unique resources and specialties of the UC campuses at Davis, Irvine, Santa Cruz and new in 2005, UC San Diego's Jacobs School of Engineering. Applicants must demonstrate academic excellence in science or mathematics. Apply to one campus by March 15. Tuition for CA residents is $1600 ($6200 for out-of-state students). The UCI Gifted Students Academy is a summer residential and commuter academic program for gifted middle school students presently in grades 4 through 8. The Great Books Summer Reading Program held on the campuses of Amherst College and Stanford University offer gifted and talented readers the opportunity to experience college-level seminar discussions of the great works of literature. The Great Books Summer Reading Program is the result of a collaboration between the Great Books Foundation and a group of distinguished educators. Over the course of six days, students will read and discuss selections from the classics such as Homer's Odyssey, Anna Karenina, the Declaration of Independence, and Plato's Apology. Students will discuss these texts using Shared Inquiry, a powerful method of learning in which students assist one another in a search for meaning.
