The Conceptual Foundations Division is one of fourteen divisions in NAGC dedicated to specific areas of interest to NAGC members. Division membership is open to members of the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) for an additional $10 fee per year. Memberships in divisions run concurrent with NAGC membership. (see membership application).
NAGC Divisions allow members to focus on areas of specific relevance. The Divisions develop their own newsletters and other publications and are instrumental in selecting presentations for the annual NAGC Convention. Click here for NAGC Division Descriptions.Mission Statement:
The Conceptual Foundations Division addresses the foundation issues, theories, and concerns of educators in developing curriculum and programs for the gifted.
A strong conceptual and theoretical framework is needed for the field of gifted education to advance. To this end, the mission of the Conceptual Foundations Division is to focus on theory; conceptions of giftedness; philosophical foundations; trends, issues and future directions; historical perspectives; and, perspectives from outside the field to provide the longitudinal, conceptual and structural frame on which the field can build. In a "nutshell", the Conceptual Foundations Division represents Big Picture thinkers in the process of examining the field and exploring possibilities to enliven and engage others in conversation, planning and action.
