The
College Board: The College Board published three excellent
resources for students and their parents researching college costs:
College Costs and Financial Aid Handbook 1999, The Scholarship Handbook
1999 with FUND FINDER, and Meeting College Costs, A Workbook for Families.
These publications, along with the College Board's ExPan guidance program,
assist in clarifying the expenses of sending a student to college.

The
Davidson Institute (www.ditd.org)
is a non-profit, national organization that offers resources to profoundly
gifted young people from the ages 4-18 and their parents.
THE DAVIDSON INSTITUTE FOR TALENT DEVELOPMENT SEEKS EXTRAORDINARY
ACHIEVERS TO RECEIVE $50,000, $25,000 AND $10,000 DAVIDSON FELLOWSHIPS
in recognition
of outstanding achievements in the areas of science, technology, mathematics,
music, literature and/or philosophy. Each submission must be an original
piece of work recognized by experts in the field as "significant"
and it must have the potential to make a positive contribution to society.
To be eligible, applicants must be under the age of 18 as of Oct. 1,
2004, and a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident. There is no minimum
age for eligibility. The scholarship must be used at an accredited institute
of learning. Each year, the Davidson Fellows are honored at a September
reception in Washington, D.C. Each application is evaluated on its scope
and quality, level of significance, and the applicant's depth of knowledge
and understanding of the work and related domain area. For more information

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Young Scholars Program. High-achieving seventh graders with financial need are encouraged to apply to the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s Young Scholars Program. Working as a team, the Young Scholar, parent or guardian, and a Foundation educational adviser develop an individualized plan of educational services to help the Scholar fulfill his or her talents and abilities. The Foundation then supports these services, which can last throughout high school and include school-year and summer programs. Applicants must apply in the spring of seventh grade and show evidence of superior academic ability as well as financial need. Approximately 35 Young Scholars are selected each year, and most family incomes are low or moderate. Applications are available as of February 1, 2005, and must be received by the Foundation no later than May 2, 2005. See www.jackkentcookefoundation.org.
The Mint:
A new web site known as The Mint
has been developed to help pre-teens gain a better understanding of
economics and personal finance. The site, developed by the National
Council on Economic Education and the Northwestern Mutual Life Foundation,
accomplishes its mission by making economics relevant to middle and
high school students everyday lives.

National
Women's History Project (NWHP): NWHP's new website offers
opportunities for thorough research on topics in women's history. Available
information includes coverage of a full array of female historical figures,
an illustrated quiz about notable women, and many links to other relevant
sites.

The National Research Center on the Gifted and Talented is sponsored
by the U.S. Department of Education to investigate, develop, and disseminate
new methods for identifying and teaching gifted students. Special emphasis
is placed on students in minority communities or who are economically
disadvantaged, those with limited English proficiency or who are disabled.
The NRC is located at the University of Connecticut, is run collaboratively
with four other major universities, and works in conjunction with more
than 300 public school districts across the country as research study
sites.

Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG)
A resource for parents of gifted children, teachers, mental health
professionals, and gifted adults. SENG is dedicated to promoting understanding

World Council for Gifted
& Talented Children, The World Council hosts a biennial
conference at a major international city during late July or early August
in odd-numbered years. Past conferences have been held in London, San
Francisco, Jerusalem, Montreal, Manila, Hamburg, Salt Lake City, Sydney,
The Hague, Toronto, Hong Kong, Seattle, Istanbul, Barcelona (2001) and

Lucent Global Science Scholars Competition:
The Lucent Global Science Scholars Program is an annual academic competition sponsored by the Lucent Technologies Foundation for students who demonstrate excellence in the sciences and plan to pursue a career in information and communications technologies.
Recipients spend a week in Murray Hill, New Jersey, with researchers and scientists and fellow Global Science Scholars at the headquarters of Lucent Technologies and its world-renowned research and development arm, Bell Labs. In addition to attending the Summit, the winning Scholars receive a $5,000 award. When an appropriate placement can be found, Global Science Scholars are offered internships at a Bell Labs or Lucent Technologies facility in their home country. Puerto Rico Parent's Organization (in Spanish) The Puerto Rico Gifted Parent’s Association is a Non-Profit Organization that protects the educational rights for the gifted students in the Island. The initial tasks are devoted to educate gifted parents and teachers to recognize and identify those students in their homes and classrooms respectively.
