National Association for Gifted Children
and
National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education

The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) became a member of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) in order to have a voice in developing the knowledge and skills requirements for teachers in gifted education.  NAGC is working closely with the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) to strengthen the NCATE standards for initial teacher training in gifted education and to develop new standards for advanced degree programs in gifted education to ensure teachers are well prepared to help their students learn.  NCATE’s member organizations represent over 3 million individuals committed to high-quality teaching.  Please visit: http://www.ncate.org/governance/MemberOrganization.asp.

NCATE is the profession’s mechanism to help establish high-quality teacher preparation.  Through the process of professional accreditation of schools, colleges and departments of education, NCATE works to make a difference in the quality of teaching and teacher preparation today, tomorrow, and for the next century.  NCATE’s performance-based system of accreditation fosters competent classroom teachers and other educators who work to improve the education of all Pre-K–12 students.  NCATE believes every student deserves a caring, competent, and highly qualified teacher.  Visit NCATE's home page for more information.
